Opening a corporate bank account is an essential step for any company operating in Luxembourg. While the process is generally straightforward, some businesses may encounter delays or require additional guidance to better understand documentation requirements or navigate the account-opening process.

To support companies throughout this journey, the ABBL has established a dedicated Corporate Bank Account Opening Support Desk. Together with practical guides, specialised banking contacts and ongoing dialogue with public authorities and member banks, it forms part of the ABBL’s broader initiative to facilitate access to corporate banking services in Luxembourg.

Business Support Desk

The ABBL Business Support Desk is designed to assist companies — particularly start-ups, SMEs and newly incorporated entities — that have encountered delays or difficulties during the corporate account opening process.

Building on the ABBL’s longstanding efforts to facilitate access to corporate banking services, the Support Desk helps companies better understand documentation requirements and navigate the process more effectively.

The service can:

  • Guide applicants through the documentation required to open a corporate bank account;
  • Direct companies towards ABBL member institutions offering corporate account opening services;
  • Where appropriate, liaise with the relevant bank to clarify the status of an application.

How it works

Companies wishing to use the service are invited to complete the structured request form.

The form gathers key information about the company, including its legal form, business activity, client base and any previous steps already taken with a financial institution. This enables the ABBL to assess each situation and provide targeted support.

All exchanges between the ABBL and applicant companies are treated as strictly confidential.

The service is available free of charge to any company seeking to establish a banking relationship with an ABBL member institution.

Please note

  • Only requests concerning corporate accounts will be considered by the ABBL. Requests concerning personal accounts will not be considered.
  • The ABBL will not analyse the file in its substance. Its role is to liaise with the relevant institution to better understand the status of an application or the reasons behind a decision.
  • The ABBL will rely on the information and feedback that the bank is able to provide.
  • The ABBL does not open corporate accounts on behalf of companies and does not guarantee a positive outcome. It acts as an impartial intermediary while fully respecting each bank’s regulatory obligations and commercial autonomy.

Other practical resources

In addition to the Business Support Desk, the ABBL has developed a range of practical resources to help companies prepare their corporate account opening application.

Prepared with the contribution of ABBL member banks and in consultation with the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), these guides set out:

  • The minimum requirements and procedures for opening a corporate bank account;
  • The essential documentation required, including identification, ownership and corporate information;
  • Clear explanations of why banks request specific information, in line with anti-money laundering and regulatory obligations.

Two guides have already been published:

  • Non-profit organisations
  • Commercial businesses

Access the guides in English, French, and German

The ABBL is also preparing additional guidance tailored to:

  • Trusts and private patrimonial foundations
  • Investment funds
  • Co-ownership syndicates

These practical resources aim to help organisations approach the account-opening process with confidence.

Banking contacts

The ABBL has also compiled a list of specialised contacts within member institutions to help companies identify the most appropriate banking partner for their needs.

Supporting Luxembourg’s business ecosystem

The Business Support Desk builds on several years of dialogue between the banking sector, public authorities and the business community aimed at facilitating access to banking services for companies.

Alongside practical guidance and individual support, the ABBL continues to:

  • Develop practical tools that simplify the account-opening process;
  • Facilitate dialogue between companies and banks;
  • Work closely with the CSSF and public authorities;
  • Support training initiatives for compliance professionals;
  • Promote a transparent, proportionate and business-friendly regulatory framework.

Through this new Business Support Desk, the ABBL aims to make the account-opening process more transparent, easier to navigate and better understood, while fully respecting each bank’s regulatory obligations and commercial autonomy.
