Computer and telephone equipment

After the amortisation period, computer equipment is sold to the staff (by lottery). The proceeds are used to fund other CSR initiatives or donate to selected charities.

We also donate outdated hardware to other organisations. For example, following an update of our telephone system in 2019, all old telephones were donated to the charities Aarbechtshëllef and Jongenheem-CIRP, which helps unqualified, long-term unemployed to obtain minimum qualifications and prepare them for the labour market.

Mobility

ABBL staff regularly participates in the IMS 'Mobility Kirchberg' initiative, a study to analyse the habits of commuters in Kirchberg, particularly their use of public transport to get to work.

CO2 compensation

The General Assembly of April 2019 and the Chairman's Dinner of July 2019 were the first two ABBL events which were carbon neutral. MyClimate certified the CO2 compensation.

IMS Zero single use plastics charter

The recent 'zero single use plastics' initiative is about replacing disposable plastics with more sustainable alternatives. Two actions were carried out in this context:

  • A new coffee machine was purchased, which uses whole beans
  • Plastic cups for both the coffee machine and the water fountain were eliminated completely

Waste management

The ABBL has signed an agreement with the SuperDrecksKëcht® to better manage its waste. Waste sorting is applied in the ABBL office throughout the whole House of Finance building.

Consumables management policy

Use of organic cleaning products, local brands for drinks, fair trade products, products with returnable/reusable packaging, rechargeable batteries for electronic equipment, environmentally friendly paper (paper from cultivated trees and FSC) are all examples of how we try to reduce our consumption.

We have developed quite a good reflex not to print too much and the green policy of the office influences our behaviour in our private lives.

Other measures

  • Promotion of responsible travel: statistics on the impact of the CO2 footprint of transport and daily travel of employees are processed annually and are key performance indicators to measure our environmental impact
  • The replacement of light bulbs with LEDs is planned for 2021
